I look in Cost Plus. I see some nice deals. I wrote about one on my blog; a Calif Petite Sirah with a circus label. I paid $21 for it 18 months but found it at CPWM for $16. I bought a couple more but it is not special enough to return for more. Finding a reliable wine shop is very important if you plan to enjoy wine routinely. My local shop is Woodland Hills Wine Co. I often mention them since I shop there alot. The shop has just about anything I would ever want to try and more. I also shop at Palate Food+Wine. This brings up the second critical feature when wine shopping. After you find the right wine shop you must ID the right clerk for your palate. The guy who sells wine at Palate used to be that guy at WHWCo. Fortunately, his successor at WHWCo is a very good mat5ch for what I like. Finally, you may want to ID importers that bring in the kinds of wines you favor. This is another good strategy. I will follow you on twitter.

I, too get the specials e-mail letter. It's about a 50/50 on my response of the wines I've tried. All in all, though, it's a good place to buy some tried and trues at a good price, but not a great place to find interesting new and good wines at good value price points. I've got one really close to me, so not a big deal to stop in and see what's new.
